Project Info
Project Description
The village where OBATAKE stands is, in my opinion, the most beautiful village in all of Miyama.
This village is a dead-end valley, which means there is no through traffic. Only the villagers come here. Because of that, the entire village remains quiet, peaceful, and untouched by tourism. Time seems to flow more slowly here.
A river runs through the center of the village.
You can hear the gentle sound of flowing water and the songs of birds.
If you listen carefully, nature is the only sound you will hear.
Above all, the people in this village are truly kind, and the tradition of self-governance still continues today. The community system that has been passed down for generations is still alive.
◆Introducing a 2-Minute Video of the Village
In this short 2-minute video, we would like to introduce the village where OBATAKE exists.
The video shows part of village life, including the community work that takes place twice a year. Villagers gather together to maintain the roads, waterways, and surrounding environment. It is a quiet but powerful tradition that continues even today.
Through this kind of community cooperation, thatched-roof houses were built and preserved. The rice fields, farmlands, and forests have also been maintained by the hands of the villagers for generations.
◆The History of This Village
About 50 years ago, this village flourished through forestry.
Japanese timber had strong value, and many people worked in the mountains. The village was full of energy and life.
However, as times changed, Japanese timber became difficult to sell.
The village gradually declined, and today, the population continues to decrease while the aging of the community progresses.
Even so, this village still holds a quiet pride and a deep beauty.
The culture of living with nature, supporting one another, and continuing self-governance remains here.
◆OBATAKE Is Part of the Village Story
OBATAKE is not separate from this village—it is part of its history and daily life.
We hope you will not only stay in the house, but also feel the atmosphere of the village, the flow of time, and the spirit of the community.
Through this 2-minute video, we invite you to experience the true foundation that has supported OBATAKE—the strength of the village itself.
