Project Description
Miyama FUTON & Breakfast is a private stay in a traditional thatched-roof farmhouse in the peaceful satoyama countryside of Miyama, Kyoto. Built over 150 years ago, this historic home offers a rare opportunity to experience rural Japan in an authentic and timeless setting.
In this 45-second short video, we introduce the exterior of the property, focusing on the beautiful garden and the quiet atmosphere that surrounds the house.
At the heart of the garden stands a large persimmon tree, a symbol of the seasons and the slow rhythm of life in the countryside. Blending naturally into this landscape is a small thatched-roof chicken coop, built with the same care and spirit as the main house. It feels almost like a miniature farmhouse, reflecting the traditional craftsmanship and aesthetic of Miyama.
Within the grounds, there is also an old kura (traditional storehouse), where you can find a hidden treasure at its entrance: a suikinkutsu, a unique Japanese water feature. If you listen closely, you will hear clear, delicate sounds echoing from underground—like a natural instrument played by water itself. It is a moment of calm that gently clears the mind.
Nature, architecture, and sound.
The true charm of Miyama FUTON & Breakfast is not only what you see, but also what you feel in the quiet presence of this place.
We hope this short video helps you experience the atmosphere of Miyama, even for just a moment.
