Japanese Thatching Gallery

When I trained in the UK in 1997, my master Chris told me:

“Thatching is one of the oldest skills shared by humanity.”

Japanese thatching varies greatly by region and shows a rich diversity of techniques and styles.
The traditional use of grass reveals a quiet but powerful sense of creativity.

Here is a small selection of thatched roofs from Japan.
Please enjoy the gallery.

Thanks to my parents, who gave me strength in life.

I wore a "tenugui "on my head from the time I was a baby.
